Christchurch’s spring fashion festival returns in October
What the confirmed programme tells us, and how to explore the designers beyond the runway.
Christchurch Spring Fashion Festival is scheduled for 15–18 October 2026 at Te Pae in Ōtautahi. According to the organiser, the four-day programme will bring runway shows and presentations together in one city-centre venue. That matters for anyone who follows Aotearoa fashion from outside Auckland: the event gives South Island audiences a closer look at labels they might otherwise encounter only through photographs and online stores.
What has been announced?
The festival lists The New Guard with Harris Tapper, REBE, Rhoda Nunn and Awatea among its participants. The Spring Edit names Caitlin Crisp, Kathryn Wilson, Juliette Hogan and taylor. The programme also includes Breast Cancer Cure’s Fashion for a Cure. These are the organiser’s announced lineups at the time of writing; show times, tickets and participants may change.
Beyond a runway photograph
A runway is a useful introduction to a designer’s point of view, but it is not a shopping list. Look for repeated ideas across a collection: the proportion of jackets to trousers, a recurring fabric or a colour that connects several looks. Then ask which of those ideas could work in an ordinary wardrobe. A dramatic silhouette may translate into a simpler cut; an unfamiliar colour might become a scarf or knit rather than a whole outfit.
CURB’s suggestion is to use the festival as a starting point for discovery. Follow a label to its official site, read how it describes its work, and check its own stockists before travelling. Our guide to New Zealand labels explains why we distinguish a designer from a store that stocks several labels. If you plan to explore Christchurch retail in person, the Christchurch store directory is another starting point; confirm addresses and hours with retailers.
